I'm back

Since my last post things have changed - quite considerably. I'm now the guts of 400 miles further west and north of where I was before. Unfortunately the credit crunch(tm) claimed a casualty much closer to home than I expected. Okay that's not true. It was expected. Now I don't propose to go into the why's and wherefore's of what happened, other than to say that being right isn't any consolation. I think it's more constructive to focus my energies on the future rather than dwell on the past. So after 5 1/2 years I find myself back where I started. Well kind of. Older? Certainly. Wiser? Definitely. I'd actually say that I'm not the same person I was in 2003, but a little project that I'm entertaining myself with, suggests I'm same person I was 20 years ago, albeit with less hair and more chins.

One good thing that has come out of this is a long conversation I had with a recruitment consultant recently. Truthfully I learnt more about job hunting in two hours than in the previous 15 years. It certainly gave me an insight into the mechanics of recruitment agencies, how they work, their expectations compared to my expectations and how their agenda will almost always differ from mine. Very interesting. And something that I've put into practice when dealing with them.

I'll update this as and when. I'm not saying that normal service is suspended (it isn't) it's just you might see more steam being vented here (I suspect about recruitment agencies who advertise on job sites yet can't quite manage an automated acknowledgement email when they get an application or companies who ask you to put confidential information (DOB, NI number, Address etc) on non-secure websites
